AMReX at Exascale
AMReX at Exascale is a technical workshop organized by the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at Cambridge on 24 - 25 June 2024 to coincide with the annual GRTL collaboration meeting on June 26-27.
AMReX at Exascale is a technical workshop organized by the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at Cambridge on 24 - 25 June 2024 to coincide with the annual GRTL collaboration meeting on June 26-27.
GRTeclyn is our AMReX based AMR solver for Einstein's equations of General Relativity designed for exascale computing by offloading calculations to GPU accelerated systems. The University of Cambridge hosts the Dawn supercomputer - based on the new Intel GPU Max series, this is currently the largest AI supercomputer in the UK.
For this meeting, we're interested in exploring the themes of open platform programming and performance portability particularly in the content of AMReX and AMR applications.
The GRTL collaboration is a consortium of researchers developing and applying numerical relativity tools to a wide range of topics in astrophysics, early universe cosmology, and mathematical general relativity. Every 6 months, members and guests gather to discuss the development of the codes, present scientific advances achieved using the code, and create new synergies of learning and research. This year, the meeting will be divided into code day (26 June) and science day (27 June).
Since the first COSMOS supercomputer in 1993 commissioned by Prof Stephen Hawking, the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology (CTC) has been dedicated to the advance of high performance computing for research into the origins and structure of our Universe and is recognized as an Intel OneAPI Centre for Excellence. The CTC is additionally funded by the ExCALIBUR programme which aims to develop the next-generation of high performance computing simulation software to advance key research fields in the UK.
The CTC is located in Pavillion B of the Centre for Mathematical Sciences, Wilberforce Rd, CB3 0WA. All talks will be held in MR5 in Pavillion A - a map can be found here. National Rail services to Cambridge depart from Kings Cross, London (45 min) and London Liverpool Street (1.2 hrs). From the train station, catch the U1, U2 or X3 buses (alight at the Wilberforce Rd stop on Madingley Rd). Alternatively, a taxi will cost about £15.
Accommodation can be booked at Benson House, Arundale House Hotel or Citystay at Marino Place. College accommodation can be booked here during this time, and is likely to be the cheapest accommodation option in Cambridge. The closest colleges to the CTC are Churchill and Selwyn.
The meeting is split into two parts - the first half (June 24 - June 25) focuses on running AMReX (and other GPU accelerated codes) at exascale, while the second half (June 26 - June 27) is the GTRL collaboration meeting. Participants are welcome to attend any or all of the days.
Registration for the AMReX meeting includes a workshop dinner which will be held at Galleria at 7pm on Monday 24 June.
Registration for the GRTL collaboration meeting also includes a workshop dinner at 7.30pm on Wednesday 27 June at the Fellows Dining Room at Murray Edwards College.
